Old World of Making Money in Social Networks, and New World of Social Networks Sharing Revenue
Having been involved with online marketing and advertising for the last 4 years, I have done a great deal of research and development. In this time span, I have also seen a great deal of change in how success was found in the industry. The world used to be flat... Advertising via Google Adsense used to be the way that advertising revenue was made by internet advertisers. It was easy and two dimensional. You could market your website, launch Adwords campaigns, and find a great deal of success. However, once Google re-engineered their price points to their customers, and in turn how much advertisers were paid for user clicks, a lot of new-comers were shocked that they weren't finding the amount of success that their predecessors had. Affiliate advertising was also a part of this simple online advertising success period. Having nicely laid out text links and banner ads on your website would allow you to also launch marketing campaigns to your website, and find a great deal of advertising success. While you can still have decent amount of success from doing so, the margin is a great deal smaller than what it used to be. The world is now round! While a lot of users are still conducting Google searches and landing on engineered websites that were designed to make money through advertising, this success margin is shrinking each and every month. The reason? Users are slowly becoming smart upon the fact that 70% of these sites have nothing interesting to offer them! Too many losers who wanted to get rich quick have created and marketed websites that are totally advertising, with no valuable content! If a user goes to a landing page, finds some interesting material to read and actually learns something that they didn't know before, they will be satisfied and will have a positive mindset when they see advertising. However, if they land on a page that is nothing but a bunch of garbage text, with no value and predominantly keyword content, and all advertising, they shut themselves off and have a negative response to the advertising. Constant and repetitive experiences such as this actually causes users to have a repetitive and negative feeling every time that they see advertising! In effect, these garbage sites are conditioning the internet public to not click on advertisements, even on the sites with valuable content! For internet marketers and advertisers, what does this mean? For those of us that have found continued success through quality advertising, this means that change is necessary. The quality marketers must separate themselves from the rest of the herd by developing wings, and soaring above them! We must show the internet users that there are quality websites, and quality advertising available to them on the internet. The latest venue is social networks. While social networks are also beginning to be flooded by the same garbage users which ruined the Adsense venue and SEO optimization, there is still a great deal being done by the social networks to prevent these users from finding success. While MySpace is still flooded by garbage users, "bot" users which are only there for computers to use them to send advertising to their friends lists, there are other social networks which have limited their users from being able to hack into their sites in this manner. Facebook, is probably the social network that has had the greatest deal of success in this endeavor. Facebook has extremely limited the amount of editing that you can do on your own profile, as well as what you are allowed to post on other users' profiles. So, if you want to advertise on Facebook, you must either use Facebook's advertising features to drive users to your profile page, or chat directly to users or in groups to develop credibility within your industry to compel users to visit your profile page, or company page. However, Yuwie is beginning to find success in another manner. Yuwie is offering a percentage of the revenue generated from advertisements on users' profile pages to the users! They offer a referral system, which also allows you to make a percentage of the revenue generated from referred users as well, down to 10 levels (Your own profile being level 1). You can also insert some text link advertisements in your own blog entries, but ensure that you offer good supporting material as well, otherwise you will only find failure. Some banner ads can also be used on the profile page in a few locations, but you may want to rotate them occasionally to find out which ones offer the most success. In the end, you must fill your profile page with high quality and informative content. Users want to find new content and information that they didn't know before, so try to ensure that it is unique content as well... In other words, write your own stuff! So, the commercial that you may or may not have seen on television for www.TheLadders.com, which has the tennis court with a match between two professional tennis players being flooded by people from the stands, is a perfect rendition of what happens in the world of internet marketing and advertising. The high quality advertisers lead the way and find new methods and mediums in order to separate themselves from the people that are only interested in getting a quick buck. In reality, it is only a matter of time before these garbage internet advertisers find their way through the cracks and murk up the waters. Quality internet marketers are continuously searching for a medium that will be a lasting home for high quality marketers. The perfect environment is one that filters out the garbage internet advertisers to keep the medium's quality high, and a decent home for internet users that are searching for quality products and services. As of today, we are still searching for this perfect home, and will continue to do so! However, social networks seem to have the most potential for a perfect advertising arena for quality internet marketers, which is why this author is currently focused within this medium.
