Helping Charities Through the Latest Social Network Trend
How can we help to share our success? More importantly, how can we share our success with those who need it the absolute most? These are the questions that were in my head when I initially began working on my company's first project. I wanted to be sure that my first endeavor was a noble one, but also one that found a decent profit through its success. So, how do I do both? How can you be noble AND find financial success? To most people, and most successful people will agree with them, you can't do both! We have all been raised to believe that we "can't have our cake and eat it too." However, I can stand in front of you with as huge of a piece of cake as I can hold, and eat it. So, I made it my mission to prove everyone wrong... and I did! I found a service that everyone uses, and then found a means to give it to them at a discount! Tons of internet users buy products via websites and internet advertisements each and every year... However, do they always get the best prices? I found a provider which deals with hundreds of vendors which are offering their services at a discount, to ensure that I was offering the best prices that they would find. So, now I have the key to financial success, but where does "noble" fit in? I began researching how my company could utilize its financial success and leverage it into a noble effort of helping out not just my local community, but the global community at the same time. Thus, "Good Samaritan" became a reality. I designed a social networking application which consolidates tons of internet offers to its users, where they will be able to get hundreds of items and services at a discounted rate. Then, I donate 25% of the earnings that my company makes from giving the business to the vendor and donate it to charity. (The average retail product that has a charity associated to its sale averages around 10 - 15% of the products value being donated to the associated charity) However, I don't just give this 25% to just any charity that I please! I designed "Good Samaritan" so that the users themselves get to choose amongst the participating charities within the application, so that they can ensure that this 25% goes to a charity that they personally want to help. Now, while the application went live with only two amazingly respected charities involved, I will be adding more charities down the line, and even designed a feature that will allow application users to send e-mails to their favorite charity in order to ask them to participate within "Good Samaritan"! So, as it stood, "Good Samaritan" was already an amazing "money saving" and "charity donating" application. However, I still asked myself "what else can I do to increase its value?" Then, I came up with a few more additions to really ensure that Good Samaritan was truly worthwhile. I designed the ability for users to "Learn More" about a charity and to be directed to the charity's website so that they can read all about the causes that each particular charity serves. Then, for users that are on an extremely tight budget, I ensured that on top of products and services, a user can complete "product and informational surveys"! These surveys are utilized by marketing and product researchers, and cost the user nothing but a few minutes of their time. This allows me to still earn money from these surveys, and to donate 25% of my earnings to a charity of the users choice, but without the user having to purchase anything. I took "Good Samaritan" from the level of "good" to the level of "phenomenal"! I did so by doing the following: 1) Analyzing a service that is currently in demand. 2) Finding an easier or less expensive way of giving it to consumers, or both. 3) Designing extra features or options within the concept to give it a unique and/or added value. 4) I give a portion of my proceeds to charity. 5) I donate a higher percentage of my proceeds than the average retail product does. 6) I designed a fluid process flow, and central location for consumers to find my services.
